History
The 52-story hotel opened in 1992 as the Macklowe Hotel, incorporated and renewed the dilapidated Hudson Theatre as a meeting space, and was owned and operated by Harry B. Macklowe until 1995. The hotel was purchased by Millennium & Copthorne Hotels in 1995. The adjacent Hudson Theatre also is owned by M&CH and recently (late 2016) been redeveloped into a "working" Broadway theatre. The Hudson also holds historic value as a venue/studio for early American TV game shows and NBC's "Tonight Starring Steve Allen" (Fall 1954-Jan 1957), the first iteration of what now is "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon".
In addition to The Premiere, M&CH also owns, in NYC, One UN New York (formerly United Nations Plaza Hotel), the Novotel Times Square property (which is operated by the Accor Group), and the financial district's Millennium Hilton (which is operated by Hilton). M&CH is based in London, owns/manages 100+ properties worldwide, and publicly trades on the London stock exchange.
