CitizenM (branded citizenM) is a Netherlands-based hotel chain. It opened its first hotel at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in 2008, followed by one in city of Amsterdam itself in 2009. Its first overseas hotel in Glasgow opened in 2010, followed by one in London in 2012.

CitizenM was co-founded by Rattan Chadha and Michael Levie in 2005. The branding and logo was developed by KesselsKramer.

CitizenM hotels embrace International Style with large glass windows cladding in black metal exterior wall (the one in Amsterdam using gray metal), making use of off-side modular construction for many of the components. Some of the locations make use of large scale public art, such as by Julian Opie at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
The public spaces of the hotels feature the "Living Room" furnished with art and iconic furniture from companies such as Vitra, with the result that the hotel has an upbeat designer feel, with artwork and books. The design assumes intelligent, digitally-literate guests, for example, with open computer stations where guests check themselves in and out.
The Rotterdam hotel opened in December 2013 and has a double ceiling height, a tree and a wooden staircase in the entrance.
The hotels feature automated self check-in, and also do not employ bellhops.
The rooms are smaller than a traditional hotel room, and are relatively basic in their design. There is a small toilet and shower area with a rain shower head, a small, lighted closet, and a combination vanity and storage area outside the toilet and shower area. The rooms themselves feature flat-screen high definition TV's, whole-room color-changing mood lighting, extra-large beds, a wall-mounted telephone, and a tablet (usually an Apple iPad Mini or a Samsung Galaxy Tab) to control all of the in-room functions. There is hardwood flooring throughout, as well as modern furniture. The rooms also feature a wall-to-wall window with power shades, free "On Demand" movies and cable, free Wi-Fi wireless internet, and a storage compartment below the bed that is large enough to fit an average-sized suitcase.
While the rooms may feature innovative and luxury designs, their smaller size and eco-friendly amenities allow for a less expensive nightly rate.
Locations
The original hotel at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam was opened in 2008 and was designed by the Dutch architectural company Concrete. With 230 compact 14 m2 (150 sq ft) rooms, it is built on a modular basis.
The second hotel opened in Amsterdam's city centre in 2009, and was awarded a Fodor's 100 Hotel Award for Design in 2011.
